Diwali 2025: 20 or 21 October, Know the Correct Date & Muhurat

Diwali is the most significant and prominent festival of Hinduism, celebrated with great enthusiasm across India. Diwali 2025 will be celebrated on Monday, October 20th. This festival of lights symbolizes the victory of light over darkness and good over evil.

Let’s Explore the Complete Essence of Diwali 2025:-

Diwali 2025: Significance of the Festival

The five-day celebration of Diwali, spanning from Dhanteras to Bhai Dooj, is celebrated with great fervor in India and several countries worldwide. The word Diwali means a row of lamps. This festival represents the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. On this day, lamps are lit in every home, and special worship is performed to receive the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi.

Importance of Pradosh Kaal and Sthir Lagna

Pradosh Kaal is the sacred period that extends for 2 hours and 24 minutes after sunset. It is also referred to as the three muhurtas following sunset. This time is considered most auspicious for Lakshmi Puja as worship performed during this period yields highly beneficial results.

The specialty of Sthir Lagna is that performing Goddess Lakshmi’s worship during this time ensures her permanent residence in the home. Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius are considered fixed signs. When these lagnas rise during Pradosh Kaal, performing puja becomes most fruitful. Worship conducted during these lagnas brings special blessings from Goddess Lakshmi, ensuring there is never a shortage of wealth and prosperity in the home.

Diwali 2025: Date and Muhurat

This year, the Amavasya Tithi will begin on October 20, 2025, at 3:44 PM and end on October 21, 2025, at 5:54 PM. Pradosh Kaal on October 20th will be from 5:46 PM to 8:18 PM, lasting a total of 2 hours and 32 minutes.

On this day, the Sthir Lagna of Taurus will be from 7:08 PM to 9:03 PM. The most auspicious muhurat for worshipping Goddess Lakshmi is from 7:08 PM to 8:18 PM. This 1 hour and 11 minutes period falls within both Pradosh Kaal and Sthir Lagna, making it the most auspicious and fruitful time. Performing puja during this time brings maximum blessings from Goddess Lakshmi.

Special Muhurat of Mahanishith Kaal

Mahanishith Kaal holds special significance for tantric practices and worship of Goddess Kali. This is the midnight period when special sadhanas are performed for attaining siddhis. This year, Mahanishith Kaal will be from 11:41 PM to 12:31 AM, lasting 51 minutes. During this time, Leo Lagna will also be present from 1:38 AM to 3:56 AM. However, for common householders, performing puja during Pradosh Kaal is considered most appropriate.

Rituals to Perform on Diwali Day

On Diwali 2025, one should massage the body with oil in the morning and take a bath. Doing this prevents financial losses and maintains prosperity in life. On this day, all family members except the elderly and children should observe a fast. Food should not be consumed during the day; meals should only be taken in the evening after worshipping Goddess Lakshmi.

Purifying the home with Gangajal and creating beautiful rangoli at the entrance is considered very auspicious. The entire house should be decorated with lamps, and special attention should be paid to cleanliness. Goddess Lakshmi prefers to reside in clean and beautifully adorned homes.

Why Ancestor Worship is Essential

Diwali 2025: Before worshipping Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha, performing ancestor worship is extremely important. This step should never be forgotten. Incense and offerings should be made to ancestors. During Pradosh Kaal, one should hold a lamp and dedicate it to the ancestors. Doing this brings peace to ancestral souls and their blessings. Only when ancestors’ blessings are received does the worship of deities yield complete results.

Diwali 2025: Complete Lakshmi Puja Vidhi

The worship area should be purified by sprinkling Gangajal. A small platform should be placed there with a new red cloth spread on it. Then, idols or pictures of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha should be installed. Along with these, idols or pictures of Kuber Dev, Lord Vishnu, Goddess Saraswati, and Goddess Kali can also be placed.

A kalash filled with water must be placed near the platform. Sandalwood should be applied to the idols of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha, and a ghee lamp should be lit. Then water, moli, rice, akshat, fruits, jaggery, turmeric, and clothes should be offered. After this, prayers should be offered to Goddess Lakshmi and mantras should be chanted.

Important Belief from Brahma Purana

Diwali 2025: The Brahma Purana mentions that on the Amavasya of Kartik month at midnight, Goddess Lakshmi wanders here and there in the homes of virtuous householders. She bestows special grace on homes that are clean, pure, and beautifully decorated. Therefore, homes should be made clean and beautiful in every way and adorned with rows of lamps. Celebrating Diwali and decorating with rows of lamps keeps Goddess Lakshmi always pleased, and she permanently resides in the home. Thus, house cleaning and lamp decoration hold special significance.

It should be performed with a focused mind and peaceful heart. After puja, prasad sweets should be distributed among all family members.
